Cup Final 2010 Result & Report

The division 2 cup final was played on thursday evening at Witham Town and we had Baddow Spartak going for some silverware and trying to stop the division 2 champions Walnut Tree from doing the double in their first season, the game started well with both teams playing fast entertaining football and both teams working hard to close each other down, Baddow were the first on the score sheet, they broke from a Walnut Tree attack and as the ball was played across the 6 yard box Mark Crick hit the ball goal bound only for keeper Deiter Wizik to make a great save the ball rebounded back to Mark Crick who scrambled the ball in to the net to the joy of his team mates, from the restart Walnut Tree upped a gear and pressed at every opportunity, midway through the half Walnut Tree were awarded a penalty after Spartak keeper Grant Sadler took away the Walnut Tree players legs, Jordan Hazell who has had a great season stepped up to take the kick but his shot sailed over the bar to the disbelief of his team mates. The second half started just like the first but it was Walnut Tree who were on a mission, when Baddow were in per session they were hounded by the Walnut Tree players, after a Baddow attack Walnut Tree picked the ball up and it was fed to Jake Fitheridge and he finished the move with a great goal and the players and fans went mad with delight to make the score 1-1,with extra time looming and the pace still in the game as it was in the first minute, Baddow broke down the left and the ball was played in to the Walnut Tree box only for the defenders to clear it back to the left of the box, the ball was bouncing and Mark Crick unleashed a super left foot volley that flew past the defender and the keeper in to the top corner of the net his team mates went mad, there was still 7 minutes to play plus stoppage time, Walnut Tree pressed and pressed, they were playing like true champions, they had the bit between their teeth, they hit the woodwork, Baddow's keeper was on his toes to tip the ball over after more shots rained down on him and his defenders, in the 3rd minute of injury time the talking point of the game, as Walnut Tree striker Jake Fitheridge ran in to the box he went down with the defender and the referee and his assistant were not 100% sure it was a penalty and the game continued, Walnut Tree went down to 10 men and had a couple of players cautioned about the penalty claim, with Walnut Tree still attacking the referee blew his whistle to end the game, Baddow Spartak win the divisional cup congratulations from the committee, commiserations to Walnut Tree who will surely be back in a final in the new future, a mention to Jordan Hazell of Walnut Tree. After seeing his side lose and when most of his team mates were losing their temper's he remained calm and was very sporting to Baddow and the match official's, well done that man, the officials tonight were referee Perry Reed, assistant's Paul Waldron and Frank Ncole, the 4th official was Sue Newton, once again a big thank you to Witham Town for the use of their facilities.
