Division2 Cup NewsDIVISION 2 CUP FINAL RESULT & REPORT 2012On a sunny and warm night at Witham Town Football Club, the last Cup Final of the season was between two of our new clubs Crondon and Woodham. Referee Sue Newton led the sides on to the pitch, Tom Wreathall's Crondon side lined up in there famous Green and White stripes, Tom's starting eleven were Dave Gorman, Dan Newham, Lewis Patrick, Captain Mark Mills, Darren Miller, Andy Gorman, Mike Harding, Darren Sawyer, Luke Hornsley, Tom Wreathall and Phil Wheaton. Crondon's subs were Gary Chidley, Manuel Da Silva, Craig Mitchell, Nick Hemsley and Graham Dickins. Woodham Radars manager Ian Barker's starting eleven were Ryan East, Matt Corney, Michael Allen, Max Mitchell, Ryan Motley, Captain Jack Barker, James Deed, Ryan Shewring, Karl Swansborrough, James Fagan and Sam Whinney. Ian's subs were Chris Vickers and Liam Phillips, Woodham were in their famous Red and Blue kit. Referee Sue got the game started with Woodham kicking towards the goal at the town end, straight away Crondon won the ball and Tom Wreathall sets up Darren Sawyer who shoots inches wide from twenty yards, 7, Crondon's Darren Miller heads over after a great ball played in from the left, 11, Woodham attack and they get a corner which is cleared to safety, 13, Crondon have a big penalty claim turned away as the players look to Sue and then to Sue's Assistant Simon Chilton, but play is waved on, 20, Woodham keeper Ryan East gets injured and play is stopped for a couple of minutes, Ryan is soon back on his feet, 26, Crondon midfielder Andy Gorman shoots over from twenty yards, 27, Crondon's pressure is building and sharp shooter Phil Wheaton lobs the keeper and the crossbar, 29, the green shirts are swarming at the Woodham defence and Tom Wreathall shoots over from the edge of the box, 31, Woodham captain Jack Barker plays a lovely ball in to the box but the Crondon defence cope well, 36, James Deed has a shot for the Radars but it sails past the post, 37, Tom Wreathall goes close again, this time Ryan East is well positioned, 39, Wreathall again shoots at goal, surely it is only a matter of time before the Woodham defence is breached, 44, Phil Wheaton does well on the edge of the Radars box making space for himself before firing over, 45, the Radars attack and as the ball is played in to the Crondon box, Ryan Shewring headers goal bound, Dave Gorman makes a comfortable save, Referee Sue Newton blows for half time, as Crondon leave the field, they must be wondering how they are not in front by a comfortable margin, Ian Barker will be the happier manager, after a pounding in that half, his boys are still level where it matters. Crondon get the second half under way, the sun has gone for the day and it is starting to get chilly, 47, Sam Whinney chests and shoots at the Crondon goal from twenty five yards, Karl Swansborrough was pulling all the right strings with some super passes, 51, Crondon's Mike Harding shoots from twenty five yards but the ball goes wide, 53, Crondon have a corner which is played near the crossbar, East punches clear to safety, 54 GOAL, Karl Swansborrough runs onto a super through ball to lob Dave Gorman as he races from his goal to narrow the angle, Swansborrough turns and his team mates congratulate him, 55, Darren Miller fires a super thirty yard free kick that East has to watch all the way as it whistles inches over, 58, Woodham's Sam Whinney races through the Crondon defence and he shoots at Dave Gorman who stood big and tall, 61 GOAL, Woodham's big throw bounces in the box and at the back post James Deed gets the slightest touch to divert the ball in to the goal for 2-0, there is protests and Sue speaks to Simon Chilton, the goal stands. 64, Swansborrough runs through the Crondon defence but Gorman is quick off his line and gets to the ball first, 65, Mike Harding of crondon shoots from fifteen yards and East flies through the air to tip away for a super save, 66, Jack Barker is encouraging his players as Crondon press for the equaliser, Barker picks the ball up on the right of the box and curls a shot in the top corner but Gorman read it all the way, Woodham's Matt Corney, Ryan Motley, Max Mitchell and Michael Allen are being kept busy with Crondon's intelligent forward play, 73, Luke Hornsley goes on a mazy run, he does a one two before firing wide of the post, 74, Ryan east is at full stretch again clawing the ball away, 75, another East save as Crondon go all out for a goal, 80, Darren Sawyer has a good chance for Crondon but he shoots wide, Woodham are playing with confidence and are putting Crondon's Mark Mills, Lewis Patrick, Darren Miller, Dan Newham all under pressure, 81, Woodham come forward again and Ryan Shewring races through the defence, as he shoots captain Mills makes the tackle of the night blocking the shot as he slides along the grass, 83, Woodham can sense victory and they pile forward for the third goal, their corner is punched clear, then Barker shoots wide, James Deed the produces a brilliant piece of skill, with his back to goal, as the ball comes over he bicycle kicks in to the bottom corner, but Dave Gorman dives across his box like superman to tip the ball around the post for a super save, 88, Luke Hornsley goes on another run shooting wide after good work, 89, Woodham's Shewring shoots wide again, 90, Phil Wheaton goes close again this time his shot is saved by East, in stoppage time Andy Gorman moves towards goal and shoots at Woodhams goal only for East to save again, Woodham score but the player was off side, Sue Newton blows for full time to end a thoroughly entertaining game, there are hand shakes everywhere. So Commiserations to Crondon Hall Stars and Congratulations to Woodham Radars on winning the Cup Final, both teams are in there first season in the League and have made friends with there football. Crondon's Luke Hornsley was the pick of his team with Tom Wreathall and Darren Miller close behind, while Woodham's keeper Ryan East was man of the match with an array of saves. The Cup was presented to captain Jack Barker from Mick Elliot who works on Discipline at E C F A, Mick comes to the Committee meetings and has a vast knowledge to steer us in the right direction. Jack lifts the cup to the cheers of his team mates and fans alike. Thanks to our Officials tonight who were Referee Sue Newton, Assistants were Simon Chilton and Trevor Williams, our 4th Official was a young man called Jim Adams, during the game i was talking to Simon's wife Allison, she told me she often beats Simon up, oops that was a secret. Thanks again to Committee members and Referees who helped out at the finals.
