League Representave Match played 23rd May 2006

Chelmsford Invitation League 1, Chelmsford & District Sunday Social League 1. Sunday Social League won 3-1 on penalties. In a night of celebration for both leagues with the Invitation League reaching it’s 25th year and the Sunday Social League it’s 10th it was the Sunday Social League that took the spoils eventually winning 3-1 on penalties after a it finished one apiece after ninety minutes. It was the Social League that started the brighter; some good passing football had the Invitation League on the back foot for the majority of the first half. Only some stout defending kept the Social League at bay. The deadlock was broken after about half an hour when following some good approach play from John Delacy, Tristan Smith found himself with some space inside the box to rifle a shot past Paul Southgate in goal to put the Social League in front. The lead could have been doubled before the break but Ross Martin cleared off the line. The Social League led 1-0 at half time. Both sides made changes at the break and it was the Invitation League that settled quicker to enjoy their best spell of the match. Zaki Hasan came close heading over a Pete Bennett cross and Andy Southgate tested the Social League keeper from the edge of the box. After about an hour the scores were level, following a decent build up on the right flank Jamie Walsh found Mickey Williams whose shot span up deceiving the keeper falling kindly for Jason Brown to smash home from close range. The remainder of the match was very open with both sides coming close to scoring the winner. The Social League came closest when Tristan Smith smashed a shot from the edge of the box destined for the top corner only for Nick Swift to amazingly head it clear off the line. The match finished 1-1 and went to a penalty shoot out where the Social League ran out 3-1 winners. Congratulations to both leagues on reaching their personal landmarks and providing an excellent evenings entertainment. Thanks to Perry Reed, Dennis Angell and Scott Frain who officiated the game without too many dodgy decisions!!! Along with Dean Scott as 4th Official And of course a big thankyou to the players involved: The Invitation League side: Paul Southgate, Mickey Williams, Ross Martin, Nick Swift, Liam Shepherd, Tony Jackson, Duncan Chappell, Jason Brown, Wayne Chipperfield, Paul Allum, Andy Southgate, Pete Bennett, Adam Sansom, Jamie Walsh, Adam Flack, Zaki Hasan,

Hannkins win Essex Junior Trophy County Final 2005

Essex Junior Trophy Final The Chelmsford Invitation League boasted both finalist in this seasons competition, a first for the league, as Gallow United and Hannakins Farm made it all the way. For Gallow, last years runners up, a chance to go one better. Hannakins Farm, last seasons semi finalists, also looking to achieve the top honour. Gallow started the brightest, not letting Hannakins settle. The early pressure paid off as Gary Burdett broke the deadlock to put Gallow ahead. Hannakins Farm rarley got going in the first half as Gallow made all the running. Against the run of play, Hannakins found themselves level just before the break, Glen Southgate netting. The goal provided the boost Hannakins needed as they came out for the second half much stronger. Hannakins were now the team on top taking the game to Gallow. Midway through the second half Hannakins got the vital second goal as Steve Blaney finds the net. Two more quick goals followed, Glen Southgate added his second, with Andy Southgate grabbing the fourth. Gallow could not get back on terms and had to settle for another runner up medal, as Hannakins Triumphed.

Representative Match played on the 25-4-07

The final representative match of the season saw us play the Sunday Social League 'A' side at Witham Town FC. Just like last season, when the Social League won on penalties, it proved to be a tight game with the score being goalless after 90 minutes. The early exchanges were even but as the first half wore on the Invitation League created the better chances the best of which fell to Marc Collyer who was unfortunate to hit the post with a header. The Social League were unfortunate to lose their captain and central defender Will King to injury towards the end of the first half. The second half saw the Invitation League start the better of the two sides with further chances going begging. The closest either side came to breaking the deadlock came when a free kick from Glen Southgate hit the crossbar. The Invitation League were hampered with around fifteen minutes to go when having just made their final substitution an injury resulted in us having to complete the game with ten players. The Social League took the opportunity to exert a little more pressure but the team held on take the game to penalties. A fine save from Paul Stevenson clinched the penalty shoot out 5 -4 to the Invitation League. I would like to thank all the players for their efforts and I am sure you enjoyed the match. I would also like to thank Mark Allum and Paul Southgate for managing the side and the officials Scott Frain, Dennis Angell,Tom Ramsey and Simon Onyons for their handling of the match. --- Steve Read --- The Side was chosen from the following squad:- Chris Ashou - Stanley Ramblers, Paul Stevenson - Athletico Billericay, Glen Southgate - Hannakins Farm, Paul Merrifield - Hannakins Farm, Shaun Collins - Baddow Spartak, John Leeder - Baddow Spartak, Reiss Dobson - Wickford Town, Tony Jackson - Gambles, Pete Bennett - Colebridge United, David Filmer - Baddow Spartak, Paul Allum - Danbury, Nick Strachan - Wickford Town, David Cole - Hannakins Farm, Paul Read - Ingatestone Rovers, Zaki Hassan - Athletico Billericay, Marc Collyer - Wickford Town, Liam Judd - Galleywood. --- Steve Read.

5 a Side Tournament 27th May 2007

The league held its first 5 a side tournament on Sunday the 27th May 2007 and despite appalling weather it proved to be a great success. Thirty teams took part and there was some excellent football played despite the difficult conditions. The final was played between Galleywood and Colbridge United 'A' with Galleywood edging any evenly contested match 2-0. Thanks to all those teams that took part and a special thank you to the officials on duty, they did an excellent job. We hope to make this an annual event so I would appreciate any feedback from those clubs that took part.-- Steve Read
