Match Reports for the 7th February 2010

ESSEX JUNIOR CUP 1/4 FINAL'S. Dengie make it to the semi-finals of a hard fought contest going through 2-0 with both goals being scored in the second half by Ross Champion and Ashley Hawkins, the game against Valentine could have gone either way, well done Dengie. Also through are the Wickford boys who like to do things the hard way, against Harold Hill both sides served up a football treat with goals galore, Jamie Newman got the Town's first half goal as they trailed 2-1 at the break. Just as entertaining as the first half neither side let up in this half, Wickford's other scorers were Mike Pearce, Mike hart, Marc Collyer and Jamie Newman completed his hat trick, a fine game of football enjoyed by everyone, well done Wickford and Dengie for keeping the Invitation flag flying high in the county cup. LEAGUE CUP 2nd ROUND. Cowboys are through after beating Baddow Spartak 2-1, Cowboys goal coming from Joe Longhurst and an own goal saw Baddow go in at the break 1-1, Billy Ellis was the Cowboys hero with the winner, Baddow thought they had a claim for a penalty in the dying seconds but to no avail. Its not very often Hannakins Farm go out early in the cup competitions, But against Bridge Street Hearts they found themselves 2-0 down on a heavy pitch, a great game unfolded and the Hearts scored through that hit man Martin Mixture and Jason Childs added the second, all the good moves from Bridge Street came via Lewis Campbell. The Farmers started to show why they have been so consistent and successful over the years with an onslaught on the Hearts goal, it really was like the alamo, from a great move the Farmers scored a super goal from Dan Lecombe, with his back to goal he controlled the ball and fired home, the hearts keeper seamed to be stopping every shot that came at him. Matt Muir was passing the ball around the Hannakins midfield like Glen Hoddle, with time running out the Hearts held on for a famous win, the Farmers were gracious in defeat. The other game in the cup saw Rapid Vics go to Dutch and leave rapidly after going down 6-0, can anyone stop the orange machine from making a clean sweep of a fine season so far, the hit men were Chris Lewis, Tim Rice, Scott Pethers and goal poacher Jamie Clarke helped himself to a hat trick in another great win. A mention to Adam Kingston in the Rapid's Goal as he played like he was the cross between Lev Yashin and the great Gordon Banks. PREMIER DIVISION. Writtle Manor hosted high flying Wallis to their patch and it was Wallis who took the spoils hitting the Manor for six, Ross Kochan, Francis Byford an own goal and Adam Flack firing a hat trick did the damage, can anyone catch the Wallis boys. DIVISION 1. Things looked rosy for Athletico Billericay 2-0 up at half time against Burntwood with goals from Martin Parker and Kevin Groves but a few home truth's had Burntwood playing like the great Ajax team of the 70s, they came forward in their droves and scored four times without reply through Darren Agey-dua, John-paul Sullivan, Tom Cole and Richard Hewlett to win 4-2. Bicknacre are starting to show some form but M&G are doing ok so far this season as well, when Jim Dickinson and Alex Rees put Bicknacre 2-0 up at the break everyone waited for M&G to bounce back in the second half, but it was the new look Bicknacre who scored the third and final goal through Alex Broad for a fine win. Wickham are playing total football under the watching eye of manager Paul Govus and today was no exception as they brushed aside Durassic Park 4-0,the hit men were Mark Ide,a brace from Pete Copsey and Wellington Nyaunwa also known as the Duke. DIVISION 2. Goals galore at Mayland this week, the visitors were Marconi and between them they produced a classic with nine goals, 3-1 at the break Mayland lead with goals from Bill Rumsey,Ricky Haynes and Chris Colwell, Marconi scorer was Nick Love who was signed on a bosman deal. the second half was just as frenetic Chris Colwell got his brace, then Nick Love took over with a superb hat trick to take his tally to four in the game, not to be out done Stewart Dennis wrapped the points up for Marconi in a good game. Meadow entertained Walnut Tree and and before you could say not again Walnut Tree were 3-0 up with goals from Jake Fitheridge's hat trick, when Meadow scored through Brad Ross you would have fought another war had broken out for Walnut Tree, arguing with each other about Meadow's goal, the second half Walnut Tree moved up a gear and Jack Matthews hit the second hat trick of the game, Pat oConnell added the Tree's seventh goal, a mention to Jay Bude who kept his cool during the blitz. Queens Park Rovers are most people's choice to get promotion again this season, but they came unstuck against Panama City 5-2 to the surprise of many, Gareth Crook scored a thirty yard special and Wesley Browne got the other Rovers goal, Panama's scorer's were Mark Lambert's hat trick and a brace from Dan Schultz for a super win. DIVISION 3. Astechs played host to promotion favourites New Mayflower and Mayflower soon got in their stride Steven Gower and Gary Morrison putting them 2-0 up at the break. More of the same in this half as Steven Gower added his second of the game, Joe Southwood scored from the spot and not to be out done Wayne Murray also scored from the spot in this 5-0 win. Wickham and Ravens are closely matched and no surprises when the game finished all square 1-1, Richard Coulthard for Wickham and Sam Bush with the late equaliser.

5 a Side Tournament 2009

The 3rd Invitation League tournament was held on 14th June. The weather was kind to us and the football was of a very high standard. After five hours of football the final was contested between Ravens A and Dutch B with Dutch running out the winners. Congratulations lads. Thanks to Broomfield FC for making their facilities available to us, to the eight referees in attendance and to the members of the Committee who were on hand from 8.30 to ensure everything was set up. Hope to see you all again next year. Steve Read.
